    Spring Cleaning the Mind

    March 23, 2019 / No Comments

I love having a clean house. But, boy, do I hate cleaning. The thought of dusting makes me groan. Polishing hardwood floors on hands and knees makes me tense. Sudsing up dishes, scrubbing toilets, and vacuuming the rugs are arduous to me. The only time I ever gave my husband the cold shoulder was the day he suggested I clean the windows, as if I had nothing better to do. I think the reason I loathe cleaning so much is because it is never finished, especially since having kids. I feel like Sisyphus, stuck in an endless cycle of fruitless labor. Sometimes, it seems like so much work that…

When Getting Gifts for Kids, Less is More

    November 20, 2018 / No Comments

Black Friday is right around the corner, and the biggest shopping season of the year is upon is. We have been receiving circulars in the mail for weeks, our e-mail has been filled with promotions, the stores are overflowing with goods to be purchased. Is anyone else completely overwhelmed by this?    Giving Gifts I love giving gifts, especially at Christmas. I love the whole process: from choosing items, to carefully wrapping them in beautiful paper, to presenting them to the recipient. It is a great source of joy to me. However, the materialistic, consumeristic nature of the season can definitely put a damper on my spirit. When it comes…

Simplifying the Holidays: Prioritize Planning, Resting, and Quality Things

    November 13, 2018 / No Comments

It’s that time of year… Time for festivities, family, fun, and feasts. Unfortunately, it also can be a time of overstimulation, overindulgence, and overwhelming stress for us and our children. As parents, we are gatekeepers; we ultimately determine the climate and culture of our home by what we allow in, both literally and figuratively. This time of year, it’s especially easy to get busy and distracted, meaning we may be compromising the well-being of ourselves and our family in the name of the Christmas Spirit. So many years, I’ve gotten all wrapped up in the doings of the season, that I’ve neglected the things I love most about it; the…

‘Tis the Season…to Get Rid of your Kid’s Stuff

    November 8, 2018 / No Comments

Have you ever walked into a home that felt more like a toy store than a place of residence? Is, perhaps, your home that way? If so, it’s easy to understand. We live in a materialistic, commercial culture where more is better and overstimulation is the norm. The problem is, more actually isn’t better, and an excess of stuff is taking a toll on American families.   Simplicity Parenting A few months ago, I read Simplicity Parenting: Using the Extraordinary Power of Less to Raise Calmer, Happier, and More Secure Kids by Kim John Payne. It was informative and convicting, and one of the main things Payne addresses is the issue…

Meet Kristin

Hey! I'm a wife and mama of two beautiful kiddos. I believe in the power of words, beauty, faith, grace, and love. While I love to theorize about and strive for parenting ideals, I value the art of keeping it real. Thanks for reading.
