    the little children

    January 10, 2019 / No Comments

My children don’t carry the burden of things unaccomplished. They don’t yet know the meaning of the ticking clock. To them, the sun’s journey across the sky only means more or less light in which to play. They do not ponder the repercussions of what they do or don’t do, but rather drift along the day’s current like little leaves. They are not bound by internal expectations. They do that which amuses them, Pursue what interests them, And submit to their own needs. They sleep when they’re tired, eat when they’re hungry, cry when they’re sad, laugh when they’re amazed at the little things I forget to see as amazing.…

How Hygge Can Help your Family

    January 5, 2019 / No Comments

Dozens of candles are lit. Soft instrumental music is playing. Your house is filled with the scent of stove-popped popcorn and you can taste the warm vanilla in your cup of hot tea. Your family enjoys a simple snack together at the dining room table while playing a game. Then, you move to the living room and pile onto the couch, snuggled under blankets. There’s laughter, coziness, togetherness. This is hygge. What is Hygge? “In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Cozying up with a loved one for a movie – that’s…

Applicable Alliterations for the New Year

    January 1, 2019 / No Comments

Today is a fresh start, a brand new year full of potential. There’s no wonder that it’s a time when people reflect on the past and make plans for a better future. I’m not a huge “resolution” person. Maybe it’s because they’re either two specific or vague that they become unattainable. I think it’s easy for resolutions to be a list of good intentions that, when they’re not met, become sources of disappointment or, even worse, shame. I do, however, love the idea of making goals and seeking to improve on life, especially when they are attainable. So instead of a list of resolutions, I came up with a list of…

    It’s Over.

    December 28, 2018 / No Comments

I am always amazed how the anticipation of Christmas grows and grows in intensity, then, the moment the date has passed, it ends immediately, like a popped balloon, and I’m left with a feeling of shock and an immediate pressure to pick up the pieces. There’s no decrescendo, no gentle descent back into normal. On the twenty-sixth, people are pulling down decorations, tearing down the tree. The radio stations go back to their regular cycle of music, stores start putting out Valentine’s Day stuff. We live in a move-on kind of culture, don’t we? Where we  anticipate and look forward to something, then once it’s arrived, we’re over it. I…

“O Come Let Us Adore Him” – Advent Week Four

    December 23, 2018 / No Comments

O Come All Ye Faithful Joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem. Come and behold Him, Born the King of Angels; O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord! Come Yesterday, I attended the funeral of a friend’s father. While I had only met the man once, I shed many tears during the service as friends and loved ones shared, especially hearing about his passionate love for Christ and others. The church was overwhelmingly filled with people who had been recipients of that love, and it was truly humbling to see the impact…

Meet Kristin

Hey! I'm a wife and mama of two beautiful kiddos. I believe in the power of words, beauty, faith, grace, and love. While I love to theorize about and strive for parenting ideals, I value the art of keeping it real. Thanks for reading.
